Monsters and Mythological Creatures

Mermaids are legendary creatures with an upper body as a human and lower as fish. The word mermaid is a compound of the Old English mere (sea), and maid (a girl or young woman). The first known mermaid story appeared in Assyria 1000 B.C. Atargatis, mother of Assyrian queen who loved a shepherd has killed him unintentionally. Ashamed, she jumped into water and took the form of a fish. The waters would not conceal her divine beauty, so she took the form of a mermaid. Mermaid shows up also in Thousand and One Nights in several tales: “Abdullah the Fisherman and Abdullah the Merman”, “The Adventures of Bulukiya” and many more. In 1493, Columbus reported seeing three female forms, rose high out the sea. Also in 2009, many people reported seeing a mermaid that was jumping out the water and doing tricks. Real or not, we would like to teach you how to draw a Mermaid, amazing creature that stirs our imagination yet for thousands of years.

Frankenstein monster as opposed to Mermaids, appeared later. It all began with Marry Shelley’s novel in 1818 by name Frankenstein. In the novel, Victor Frankenstein builds this 8 ft tall ugly creature in his laboratory. Although, Marry never names the creature in the novel, popular culture named it after its creator Frankenstein. Later, we get the most well-known image of Frankenstein’s monster from Boris Karloff’s portrayal in the 1931 movie Frankenstein. Kids and Video Games

Video games are becoming more and more popular in today’s world. When kids(or adults) are playing video game, they get so excited that they think the video game is actually a real world, while they’re playing. Modern parents often think that if their child is playing video game, that can not by any chance become harmful and dangerous for them. But I think that picture is a bit different.

Nothing is wrong if a kid  has his favorite game and plays it now and than. As long as it doesn’t become a meaning of their life. Kids can often forget about everything else, while they’re playing a video game. They can often also become disobedient. Parents simply must know where the boundaries are.  And if they know it and show it to their kids, playing video games should not be harmful at all.

History of Video Games

Lets talk a bit about history of video games. First video game was created in early 1950s, when academics designed simple games and simulations as part of their computer science research. Claude Shannon has presented the basic guidelines for programming a chess-playing computer game. We got the first war video game in 1955, when the U.S. military designed Hutspiel, in which red and blue players waged war. The turning point happened in 1964, when Dartmouth’s John Kemeny created the computer time-share system and BASIC programming language. Both make it easy for students to write computer games, that’s why soon countless video games have been created. Video gaming has became popular in the 1970s and 1980s, when programers and developers introduced arcade video games, game consoles and home computer games to general public. Today, there are eight generations of video game consoles.

Nintendo

Nintendo is the world’s largest video game company by revenue, headquartered in Japan. Nintendo developed their first video game in 1970s and this has brought them market value of over $85 billion. The word “Nintendo” can be roughly translated as “leave luck to heaven.” Their major success was a character Super Mario Bros in 1985. It was originally released in Japan for the on September 13, 1985, and later that year for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America, Europe got their Super Mario on May 15, 1987 and also Australia in 1987. In Super Mario Bros. game, the player controls Mario and in a two-player game, a second player controls Mario’s brother and allie Luigi as they travel through the Mushroom Kingdom in order to rescue Princess Toadstool from the antagonist Bowser.

Giant Shrek, giant facts

Hello our dear followers!
Today’s blog post is inspired by a movie, which was written by a man at the age of 83. This man was William Steig, cartoonist for The New Yorker and a children’s writer. Many people believe, that the book is almost always better than the movie, because we can create our own image of protagonists in our head.

Shrek is a large, green, physically intimidating ogre who has a Scottish accent. It is revealed that on his seventh birthday, Shrek was sent away by his parents because this was an ogre tradition. He than travels alone, either being screamed at or teased by passers-by. The only time he receives a pleasant greeting is a wave from a young Fiona, who is promptly led away by her parents.

  1. Shrek 2 sits at the number one of the highest grossing animated films in the U.S.  with $436 million, Shrek the Third is 7th with $321 million, and the original Shrek is 11th with $268 million.
  2. Shrek was the first movie who won the best animated feature award.
  3. Shrek received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010
  4. In German, “schreck” means “fright” or “terror.”

Of course, Shrek just isn’t perfect without his best friend an Allie Donkey, agree?  Character voiced by Eddie Murphy, is an euphoric and talkative character, who has a sweet tooth. He’s a real positive character, always looking on the bright side of everything. Model for a Donkey character was Perry, a real miniature Donkey from California.

  1. In the original book, Donkey’s role was much more minor, and served as Shrek’s mount for a short time.
  2. In the 4thmovie, it is revealed that Donkey’s really good at Origami. 🙂
  3. Donkey weighs about 150 pounds. 🙂

Drawing Methods

The most frequent issue experienced by kids when they begin learning how to draw is that they don’t fully realize that they are simply not drawing clearly what they see, they neglect to observe the object or person that they are trying to draw. This usually happens due to the fact that the human brain recognizes objects as a whole, therefore various components that the object is made of are often missed out. Therefore when you want to draw a flower, your brain signals you that you are seeing the flower as a whole and basically you are missing out the shades, lines and forms of the flower, the most important details that comprise what you are viewing at the moment. That is one of the downsides when you are drawing something and you haven’t got enough exercise or the necessary skills to come up with a beautiful drawing. Especially kids will be frustrated, they might even lose a lot of their motivation for drawing and all of these issues suggest to a possible end of the learning process.
One method that students use is quite simple and might be beneficial for children of all ages; they can try to draw without looking at their sheet of paper. This method aids you to pay more attention on all the details of the object that you have in front of you. The outcomes might not look exactly as you have expected but you will be ‘training’ your brain to p ay more attention on all details and draw most if not all of the component of that specific object, and not the recognized composite objects.
Your drawing will be looking something like this ( 🙂 )
Another technique is to draw without lifting your pencil from the paper. This method might be beneficial for many; you are basically training your brain to focus more on the details of the object that you are drawing; it can be anything from a flower, an animal, a cartoon character or an apple. It’s always important to start with simple objects and gradually move on to move complex ones when you have gained more skill. Try using a pen instead of a pencil, this way you won’t give yourself the choice of erasing part of the drawing on and on. Art teachers use this method very often, with the main goal to make every line count, thus taking small steps to draw the right way.
Here’s a video presentation how this method should look:
A large number of tools are available these days that will help children and grown-ups that are learning to draw. There are a variety of electronic gadgets and cost-free web applications that are tremendously useful for those that are willing to increase their drawing skills. Many children enjoy drawing, nonetheless the number of adults who love drawing is increasing; Drawissimo Kids-Draw&Enjoy is one of the most popular drawing  app that is available to download onto your computer, tablet or smartphone in just a few minutes. The application is one kind of a concept that comes jam-packed with hundreds of illustration tutorials. Drawissimo can be downloaded from Google Play and installed on your tablet or smartphone very easily.

Bring out the creativity in you

Bring out the creativity in you

We all are creative in one way or another. Some a little bit more, some a little bit less. The only difference is that some people will show off their creative side, while the others might keep it hidden. We will focus on creativity in art and drawing process.

Everyone can start drawing as a hobby, however most don’t even know where and most importantly how to start. Getting started is often the most difficult thing to do.The most common mistake is that people start drawing without having someone or something as a model firsthand. If you have a good example of what your creativity and drawing should look like, everything gets easier.
But even if you just don’t know anyone who would have great drawing skills, you can read further and get familiar with some good drawing tips and advice. With simple use of the most fundamental components of shape, even a kid will be able to draw any given image with the least number of lines. This method is called the “alphabet of shape” that is made up of five fundamental elements; dots, circles, curved lines, straight lines and angles. As a result, each and every kid or also adult will be able to achieve realistic representation of the subject and still be creatively exceptional.
fff
Another very important thing is to use a proper pencil when sketching. The humble graphite pencils are in every way the simplest drawing tools for sure. Number 2 HB pencils are often too hard to draw with and are good only for light shading. We recommend every beginner to buy an inexpensive 2H, HB, 2B, 4B and 6B full set of pencils in a tin.

Furthermore, we have another great suggestion for you. Today almost everyone has a computer, smartphone or tablet at home. There are various electronic gadgets and free online applications that come in handy if you or your child wish to increase your/his drawing skills. Online drawing applications are the easiest to use, and many of them are free to download. Drawissimo Kids-Draw&Enjoy is one of the most popular drawing applications that are available to download on Google Play. There are so many benefits if you choose to download and use Drawissimo Kids-Draw&Enjoy; anyone can easily learn how to draw cars, plants, cartoon characters and heroes, people and family etc… directly on a sheet of paper and not on your laptop or tablet as other applications require. It joins modern applications and technology with traditional drawing on a piece of paper, which is on our opinion, the best of both worlds.

Never give up on your drawings, as it is a learning process. Practice regularly until you get your sketches right. The best artists haven’t got that good without practice and over night!
